CPR
When an individual goes into cardiac arrest, the person’s heart has stopped prefusing the body. By preforming chest compressions, a person “squeezes” the individual’s heart which in turn circulates the individual’s blood which can nourish the heart and brain, giving the individual a chance at life. CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) can only circulate blood. What an individual suffering from cardiac arrest really needs is cardioversion or in other words an electrical shock to reset the heart. Without the reset, the heart will never beat again on its own. This is why an AED with CPR is so important. Now there are some important facts to know.
1. Every minute CPR is not performed after a person goes into cardiac arrest, that person has 10% less chance of surviving.
2. Within 4 minutes of no CPR brain death starts to occur
3. The time it takes for EMS personnel to arrive is around 8-10 minutes once they are called.
When you learn CPR, you can give your loved ones, your neighbor or your co-worker a chance at living by providing the heart and brain with nutrients, until EMS workers arrive. The CPR skills for those in the public service and medical fields these skills are necessary and must be maintained so that the public and your patients have the best chance of survival.
